Chakra Pronunciation
While it is often mispronounced as sha-kra, as in shake, The correct pronunciation of chakra is chuh-kruh, as in channel or change… And there is a wellspring of healing when you channel and harness the power of the chakra system!
Chakra Meaning in Sanskrit
In Sanskrit, chakra means wheel, relating to the spinning disks of subtle or nonphysical energy that often runs down the hara line. The hara is a current of energy, drawing higher frequencies through the crown of your head, down the center of your body, and into the earth's core.
Each chakra spins and vibrates at a unique frequency. Each frequency corresponds to a wavelength with a different color (as you may remember from science class). This is what gives each chakra a specific color.
For instance, the violet of the crown chakra has the highest vibration and shortest wavelength. As we move down the hara line, the wavelengths become longer, and their frequencies lower, such as the red root chakra or brown earth star chakra.
Chakras can indeed be open and active or blocked and closed. Why is that important? Open, active chakras are essential to physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being!
Unfortunately, chakras can all too quickly become blocked. Everyday habits and challenges, like not drinking enough water, stress, illness, fatigue, unaddressed emotions, anxiety, depression, or repressing the shadow-self, can cause chakra imbalance and blockage.
Leading to: Low energy, Chronic stress, Chronic pain, Financial struggles, Interpersonal/relational struggles, Emotional disconnection, Sexual repression, Digestion issues, Anxiety, Commitment-phobia, Lack of boundaries, Chronic allergies, Resentment, Self-denial, Shame, Chronic headache, Confusion, Indecisiveness, Emptiness, Hopelessness, and Feeling like life is meaningless.
Uh-oh, that sounds like a spiritual 9-1-1! Thankfully, we will explore how to open, activate, and balance your chakras because your best life is waiting!
The benefits of active chakras are limitless! Try listing the advantages of a beating heart, breathing lungs, clean water, or sunlight.
Balanced, open chakras are to the subtle body what healthy organs are to the physical body. When we keep them free of dis-ease, we are our best selves, living our best lives, pursuing our greatest good and highest purpose. Sounds pretty awesome, doesn't it?
Are There 114 Chakras?
Through deep meditation and years of study, anywhere from 21 to 114 chakras have been identified. However, some spiritualists contest that if we were to activate all 114, we would shut down in a state of energetic overload, like an overheated hard drive!
Not typically considered among the primary chakras because they are outside the physical body, the soul star and earth star are often overlooked. The soul star or soul chakra is the portal of divinity that hovers just above the crown. Through it, we channel the unconditional love of the universe and pure, altruistic compassion. It unifies our higher self with our earthly being.
Below the 1st chakra, the earth star chakra would be true 0 (like the true zero degrees of Kelvin, another flashback to science class!) Like the root, it connects us to Mother Earth. However, the earth star connects us to Her sacredness and the universality and divinity of being. It is the portal through which we commune with ancestors, crystals, herbs, and animal spirits. The earth star is essential to grounding our subtle body, including the chakra system, aura, and hara line.
The seven primary chakras are considered the main attraction, from root to crown; they are the Taylor Swift or Beyonce of the chakra system! And, with good reason, they correspond to physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. They are the most known and best understood. They allow chakra healing to be an accessible practice for everyone. No medical degree or Reiki lineage is required!
The chakra system is best approached from root to crown, establishing a firm foundation from which to ascend. As they say, it may be a lengthy climb, but the perspective gained is well worth it!
